Food and Goa

Goa has so many things to offer; from its scenic beauty of beaches to river boat rides, from peaceful eateries to the best party places and from modern casinos to ancient Churches. The view of beaches and the feel of sand automatically pulls you to relax yourself on shacks , lay down on sunbeds, enjoy local ‘beer’ with the delicious sea food. But Goa has a few wonderful eateries which give you a sense of its Portuguese cultural influence and also the very modern side of it. North Goa is where you can find all the action around- Water sports, flee markets, parties and beautiful beaches. And to treat yourself in between you must explore these cafes, which are beautiful blend of culinary skills and creativity.  Hope this would help you to enhance your Goa experience as it did for me-

  • German Bakery: I went to German Bakery for a brunch at the very first day of my Goa trip, it is situated near Anjuna Beach. This is a place where you can spend many hours sitting in a relaxed ‘chaupal’ sort of arrangement, use wi-fi to upload some pics of Goa-checkin on Face book and of course, savour the best recipes it has to offer. Filled with colours and peace, this place has a very Indian-urban feel about it. Whether you are a solo traveller or with a gang, this place has the perfect ambience to kick start your trip. I ordered apple fried pancake, chicken sandwich and One Love smoothie (with crunchy Vanilla beans) and all three were out of the world. I am sure that each item in their menu would be superb, so explore more options.

  •  Curlie’s is near Anjuna Beach and there are many sign boards taking you to the narrow roads and it feels like a hidden secret once you reach there. Sunset is the high point for a photographer and a nature lover so I secured a front table to have a view of the sunset. As the sun went down, the ambience of place changed to a party place with great music and lights around. The beach and the culture is so western that It reminded me of the beautiful days in Brighton UK. I took a stroll on the beach side to click some photos and saw some very interesting people and frames to capture Be a bit patient and enjoy the surroundings, as your order might take a while to arrive. You may hang out in Curlie’s as late as 2-3am in the morning.

  •  Café Chocaltti Next day after a massage session at Snip, to pamper myself further, I rode towards Candolim beach and hit Cafe Chocaltti on Fort Agauda road to have an afternoon tea. The clean and green café was so very English; I was surprised to see scones in the menu. I ordered organically grown coffee with sconces and Chicken Panini to soothe my taste buds. It was all very delicious and satisfactory. The soothing music and the green garden set-up is all I needed after a massage. I feel so refreshed and happy to treat myself with best services and food at Goa. They have a great variety of confectioneries for people with sweet tooth.

  •  Britto’s : Britto’s is a very urban shack at Baga beach, which is clearly visible from the main  road towards the beach. On the entrance I saw great artwork representing Goa’s famous cartoonist and painter Mario Miranda. Sitting at front table, it was a lovely view of the beach and row of sunbeds I ordered a Full English Breakfast and it was absolutely amazing. Nothing could give your day a better start than a breakfast high on protein. Britto’s is a great place to be anytime in a day, and at night it’s more happening and loud.
