I have never been so content about being in a metro, Calcutta is indeed charming. And after living in Delhi and Mumbai, I found the pace of Calcutta is just perfect for me. In a very quick trip to Calcutta, I went for a morning stroll in the old city specially the famous Mallick Ghat (or Mullick Ghat) flower market.
Just below the Howrah Bridge on the banks of Hoogly River at Mallick Ghat a unique more than 125 years old flower market is held every morning. This is the largest wholesale flower market in Asia.
The breathtaking moment was to be in the famous Howrah bridge and have a top view of market from there. I took a couple of pictures; but soon enough I was shown a signage about ‘Photography Prohibited’ by a cop. Well, by the time job was done. Without a doubt the flower market is a great place to photograph, however avoid the weekends. On the holidays, there is high chance that you would see 4 to 5 photography groups and you would get into each other’s frame. So while you are in Calcutta a morning stroll in flower market is a must!
